Professor Jonathan Williams, Bangor Business School
Jonathan Williams is Head of Bangor Business School and Professor of Banking and Finance at Bangor University, UK, which is a traditional university founded over 130 years ago in 1884. As Head of School, Professor Williams is shaping developments in research and teaching including international relations with partner universities. Professor Williams is an alumni of Bangor University at undergraduate, master, and PhD qualifications. Professor Williams attained his professorial appointment in 2007, and his appointment to Head of Bangor Business School in September 2017. He holds an Honorary Fellowship for excellence in Teaching since 2010.
Professor Williams leads the Banking Group at Bangor Business School. His current research focuses on executive remuneration in banking including the affects of education and experience at senior level on firm performance. His latest publications investigate the performance and risk-taking of family-owned firms, and the impact of diversification upon risk at financial conglomerates. Known for his early research on savings banks in Europe, and his research on financial liberalisation, changes in bank governance and bank performance in emerging markets in SE Asia and Latin America, Professor Williams has presented his research to audiences across the globe and at institutions including The World Bank.
As a teacher, Professor Williams supervises a team of PhD students. He lectures in Bank Management and Bank Risk Management on undergraduate programmes and International Banking on Master programmes. He is an external examiner on degree programmes as well as PhD examinations at other universities in the UK and overseas.
